Shweta Tiwari condemns online abuse and targeting of women

Indian television actress Shweta Tiwari has publicly addressed the prevalence of derogatory language and online abuse directed at women on social media. In a series of Instagram Stories, Tiwari expressed shock at the normalization of degrading slurs used against women regardless of their age or profession.

Tiwari noted that the abusers are often educated individuals who appear to come from respectable families. She specifically alleged that some of the individuals targeting her identified themselves as supporters of Raj Thackeray or the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) party.

Reflecting on her lifelong connection to Maharashtra, the actress questioned how such behavior aligns with her perception of Marathi culture, which she believed traditionally valued the dignity of women. She also highlighted that the harassment often extends to personal attacks regarding her children.
