Siaarti calls for uniform hospital emergency response systems in Italy

The Italian Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care (Siaarti) has highlighted the need for more uniform implementation of clinical deterioration monitoring systems across Italian hospitals. During a congress in Rome, experts emphasized that early recognition of a patient's declining condition through tools like early warning scores, Medical Emergency Teams (MET), and Rapid Response Systems can prevent full-scale emergencies.

Elena Bignami, president of Siaarti, noted that while these organizational models exist, their application remains inconsistent. Previous data from the Policlinico di Milano indicated that METs were active in only about six out of ten hospitals, with significant regional disparities between Northern and other parts of the country.

Andrea Bruni, head of the Siaarti Critical Medicine and Intra-hospital Emergency Section, argued for bringing intensive care expertise directly to the patient's bedside to intervene before a patient requires intensive care admission.
