Italy enhances emergency preparedness through medical congresses and simulations
The Italian Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, Resuscitation and Intensive Care (Siaarti) held a congress at the Cecchignola Military City in Rome to emphasize the necessity of preparedness for major emergencies. Siaarti President Elena Bignami highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between medical professionals, military health services, and Civil Protection to improve response capacities and reduce risks during disasters.
In a separate operational test, Bologna Marconi Airport conducted a full-scale emergency simulation involving approximately 160 personnel. The exercise simulated an aircraft accident involving a Turkish Airlines flight to test the coordination between airport management, fire services, and medical responders.
Other regional safety initiatives include the PRISM-E project in Cave, which utilizes drones, AI, and satellite data to monitor environmental risks such as fires and landslides. Additionally, in Ancona, the Italian Red Cross deployed specialized maritime and land rescue units for the Palio di Ancona, and in Sassari, officials discussed long-term climate adaptation strategies to mitigate heatwave risks.
