SIAE implements faster royalty payments and maintains fee reductions in Italy
The Italian Society of Authors and Publishers (SIAE) has overhauled its compensation distribution system for live music. Starting in October 2024, the organization transitioned from semi-annual to quarterly payments, effectively halving the waiting period for artists and organizers. In October 2024 alone, SIAE distributed approximately 26 million euros for over 32,200 songs performed live in Italy between May and July.
Additionally, SIAE has confirmed the continuation of fee reduction agreements with CNA for the year 2026. Despite a 1.4% ISTAT inflation index, SIAE decided not to increase tariffs for ambient music and non-dance musical entertainment. These agreements provide significant discounts for various sectors, including tourism, commerce, and hospitality. Reductions for background music reach up to 27% for businesses such as public establishments, beach resorts, and hotels, while reductions of up to 15% apply to non-dance musical entertainment in public venues and accommodation structures.
