Indonesian police conduct multiple raids and theft arrests

Police in various Indonesian regions have conducted multiple operations targeting theft and narcotics. In Surabaya, authorities raided a hotel room, apprehending eight individuals, including three members of the regional parliament (DPRD) from the Gerindra party representing Malang, Banyuwangi, and Situbondo. Due to the small amount of evidence found, the suspects are undergoing restorative justice and rehabilitation rather than detention. The Gerindra party in East Java has stated it will pursue dismissal and replacement if the involvement is confirmed.

In East Java, the regional police also reported uncovering 1,870 narcotics cases between July and September 2026, resulting in 2,382 suspects and the seizure of significant quantities of meth and ecstasy.

Simultaneously, law enforcement has addressed several theft incidents. In Siak, two members of a jewelry theft syndicate were arrested after a three-day investigation. In Kendari, police recovered five stolen motorcycles, while in Medan, two suspects were shot by police during an attempted escape following a robbery. In Batam, two men were arrested for stealing a motorcycle from a laundry area.

In Surabaya, hundreds of truck drivers organized protests against the current subsidized diesel barcode system and demanded better access for towing vehicles, causing significant traffic disruptions.
