Sibanye-Stillwater faces strike notice at US PGM operations

Sibanye-Stillwater has received a strike notice from the United Steelworkers union. Members covered by the collective bargaining agreement for the Stillwater-East Mine and the metallurgy operations in Columbus intend to begin a strike on the morning of Thursday, September 3, 2026.

The strike notice does not affect the East-Boulder Mine, which operates under a separate agreement. The company stated it has been in dialogue with the union for over four months to reach a new contract. Sibanye-Stillwater is currently implementing a productivity-oriented transformation program focused on increased mechanization and modernized workflows to improve long-term sustainability for its platinum-group metal (PGM) operations in the United States.

Separately, Sibanye Gold Limited announced a dividend of approximately $0.50 per share. Shareholders of record as of September 18 will receive the payment on October 6. The company recently reported strong first-half financial performance, including significant growth in revenue and operating cash flow.
