Sibanye-Stillwater orders Epiroc equipment to mechanize platinum shaft

Sibanye-Stillwater has placed an order with Epiroc to mechanize the Siphumelele shaft at its Rustenburg platinum operations in South Africa. The investment aims to enhance safety and productivity while extending the mine's life and maximizing existing ore reserves.

The order includes low-profile underground equipment specifically designed for narrow-vein mining conditions, such as LHD 5.5 LP loaders and UV42 utility vehicles. These vehicles will utilize interchangeable cassettes to perform various tasks, including the transport of personnel, tools, and explosives, as well as supporting maintenance and logistics.

Delivery of the new fleet is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026. This move represents a strategic shift toward modernizing underground operations in environments where space is highly constrained.
