Sibari Frecciarossa service suspension sparks mobility concerns
The suspension of the Frecciarossa service from Sibari, scheduled from December 13 due to construction on the Paola-Cosenza line, has sparked criticism regarding regional mobility and service continuity. Critics argue that the lack of a clearly defined replacement plan, such as coordinated bus services between Sibari and Paola, places an undue burden on commuters, students, and those traveling for medical reasons.
There is also significant debate regarding the restructuring of the rail route. The current direct Sibari-Bolzano connection is set to be replaced by a Sibari-Milano-Torino route. Giuseppe Lo Feudo, former general manager of Ferrovie della Calabria, has questioned the decision to suppress a consolidated service with high ridership. He suggests that instead of merely modifying existing routes and presenting them as improvements, authorities should focus on increasing the total number of rail connections to support northern Calabria.
