Sibari region in Calabria becomes easily reachable tourist hub

The Sibaritide area around Piana di Sibari in Calabria is now the most accessible part of the region, contrary to the perception of isolation. A four‑lane highway reaches Sibari from the Firmo junction, making the town a ten‑minute drive away. Completion of a third megalo highway on the Ionian side will close the road loop with Apulia, further improving connections from both the Adriatic and Tyrrhenian coasts.

ISTAT data show that about 70 % of Italian tourist trips are made by car, with the majority of traffic to Calabria coming from the north. This road infrastructure has turned the Sibaritide into a convenient transit point, though it risks remaining just a passage unless local attractions are promoted. Meanwhile, neighboring Puglia continues to attract more visitors than Sardinia, and many travelers stop there instead of continuing into Calabria.
