SIBioC advocates for standardized laboratory data in digital health

At the 58th National Congress of the Italian Society of Clinical Biochemistry and Molecular Clinical Biology (SIBioC) in Rimini, experts discussed the necessity of data interoperability in digital healthcare. The focus is on moving from static digitized documents to structured data within the Electronic Health Record 2.0 system.

To ensure clinical information remains meaningful across different facilities and systems, professionals emphasized the need for uniform laboratory data. This transition aligns with the requirements of the new European Health Data Space (EHDS), which aims to establish common standards and infrastructures for the secure use of electronic health data across Europe. Implementing international standards, such as LOINC, is highlighted as a key method to ensure laboratory exams can be uniquely identified, recognized, and compared regardless of where they were performed.
