Sibiu Hospital Stresses Early Diagnosis for Lung Cancer

During the penultimate day of the World Lung Cancer Day campaign, doctors at the Hospital of Pneumofibrology in Sibiu explained that early detection offers the greatest chance of successful treatment for bronchopulmonary cancer. Dr. Ioan Drăghilă, chief of the Pneumology II department, highlighted modern investigative tools such as chest X‑ray, computed tomography, bronchoscopy, tissue biopsy, histopathology, immunohistochemistry and molecular testing, stressing that imaging alone cannot confirm cancer.

The specialists noted that recent advances in targeted therapy and immunotherapy have improved prognosis for many patients, but warned that even the most advanced treatments cannot offset delays in diagnosis. They urged anyone with persistent respiratory symptoms or changes in lung health to seek a pneumology consultation promptly, because each month of postponement can be critical.
