Romania reports rising carbon monoxide poisonings and emergency incidents
Romania has seen a surge in various emergency incidents and civic activities. In the first eight months of 2026, carbon monoxide poisoning cases in the Delgaz Grid area rose to 28 victims, including six deaths, a significant increase from the 12 victims and two deaths reported in the same period of 2025.
In Vaslui, a family of three was hospitalized after inhaling carbon dioxide while checking fermenting grape must in a cellar; two members remain in deep coma while one was resuscitated.
Environmental efforts were highlighted by the National Cleanup Day, where thousands of volunteers, including staff from the Deva Social Assistance Directorate and participants in Cluj, collected thousands of bags of waste across the country.
Emergency services also responded to numerous other incidents, including 23 vegetation fires in Timiș affecting 100 hectares, multiple road accidents in Argeș and Sibiu, and a rescue operation for two hikers in the Făgăraș Mountains due to severe weather conditions.
