White Rock RCMP death inquest rescheduled for September

The BC Coroners Service has scheduled a new inquest into the 2016 death of Patricia Ann Wilson, 58, who was found unresponsive in White Rock RCMP cells. The inquest is set to begin on September 15, 2026, in Burnaby.

Wilson’s death followed events involving civilian jail guards and members of the White Rock RCMP detachment. Under the Coroners Act, an inquest is mandatory for deaths occurring while a person is in the custody of a peace officer. The inquiry, presided over by coroner Kimberly Isbister, will aim to determine the facts of the death and may offer recommendations to prevent similar occurrences. This follows a previous postponement of the inquest originally scheduled for 2025.

In a separate incident on Highway 1 in Malakwa, a semi-truck veered off the road and struck a parked pickup truck and a fifth-wheel trailer. The collision, suspected to be caused by inattentive driving, resulted in extensive damage to the vehicles. One person in the RV trailer sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while the occupants of the pickup and the semi driver were not seriously injured.
