Sicco Cuperus disappearance: Evidence suggests criminal involvement
New findings have emerged regarding the 2014 disappearance of Sicco Cuperus, a 36-year-old Royal Netherlands Marechaussee corporal. Journalist Margriet Brandsma suggests that evidence indicates his disappearance was likely a crime rather than a voluntary departure.
Key evidence includes the discovery of Cuperus’s car near a former dairy factory in Marrum three days after he vanished. Witnesses reported seeing a person exiting the vehicle who was significantly shorter than Cuperus, who stood nearly two meters tall. Additionally, the driver’s seat was found positioned too far forward to have been adjusted by someone of Cuperus’s stature, suggesting third parties were involved in moving the vehicle.
On the day he disappeared, Cuperus failed to report for duty in Harlingen. Circumstances at his home, such as an open bedroom window and a phone left on a charger, initially suggested a routine departure. However, investigators note he had picked up his service weapon the previous Saturday, leading to theories that he may have felt threatened or was involved in criminal activity that escalated fatally.
