Sichuan delivery driver shares struggles of overnight gig work

A delivery driver in Sichuan, China, named Bruce has gained social media attention on Xiaohongshu for sharing the realities of his overnight work schedule and living conditions.

After facing layoffs in his professional field, Bruce began working as a food delivery driver at night to cover rent, living expenses, and debts. His shifts often last 10 hours, typically running from 8:00 PM or 10:00 PM until 6:00 AM. Due to the demanding schedule and lack of time for meal preparation, he often relies on inexpensive or improvised meals.

Bruce recently shared a photo of a meal costing 5.87 yuan (approximately 22,000 VND), noting that while it was edible, it contained only three thin slices of meat and did not match the advertised appearance. His posts highlight the challenges faced by gig workers navigating economic pressures in urban environments.
