Sichuan health officials report HIV infection in university student
The Zigong Center for Disease Control and Prevention in Sichuan, China, has reported an alarming case of HIV infection among the student population. An 18-year-old university freshman, referred to as Mr. Chen, tested positive for HIV antibodies during a routine school health examination.
The infection occurred approximately three months prior following an instance of unprotected sexual intercourse with an individual met through social media. Mr. Chen initially experienced symptoms such as prolonged mild fever, fatigue, and body aches, but mistakenly attributed these to exhaustion from rigorous military training at the start of the semester.
Medical experts note that early HIV symptoms can often be mistaken for general fatigue or exhaustion, creating a dangerous gap in recognition and timely medical intervention.
