Sichuan structural collapse kills five during celebration

A structural collapse in Changning County, Sichuan Province, resulted in five deaths and 17 injuries on August 18. The incident occurred during a celebration for a local student who had recently been admitted to a prestigious university.

The accident took place around 5:00 PM when a retaining wall above a temporary roof structure suddenly collapsed onto guests gathered in a courtyard. The victims were part of a family living in poverty, and the gathering was organized with the support of neighbors to celebrate the student's academic achievement.
