Sichuan University study links daily tea consumption to slower biological aging

Researchers at Sichuan University in Chengdu, China, have conducted a study suggesting that consuming approximately three cups of tea per day—or six to eight grams of tea leaves—may offer significant anti-aging benefits.

The study analyzed data from 5,998 British women aged 37 to 73 and 7,931 Chinese participants aged 30 to 79. Researchers examined various biological markers, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and body fat percentage, to determine biological age.

The anti-aging effects are attributed to polyphenols, which are bioactive compounds believed to influence gut microbiota. This influence can impact immunity, metabolism, and cognitive functions associated with aging. Additionally, the antioxidants in tea may protect skin cells from damage caused by free radicals.
