Sicilian cities host memorial processions for Palestinian children

Memorial initiatives involving large shrouds inscribed with the names of Palestinian children killed in the Gaza conflict are taking place across Sicily. In Sciacca, a 25-meter-long white cotton cloth featuring 18,457 names was carried through the historic center as part of the “Infanzia negata” (Denied Childhood) initiative. Organized by the Sciacca with Gaza Civic Committee, the procession aimed to transform conflict statistics into individual human memories.

In Palermo, a larger 70-meter shroud is scheduled to pass through various neighborhoods on October 2 to mark the International Day of Non-Violence. This demonstration is organized by a network of eight local educational institutions to raise awareness and promote peace. The names listed on the cloth are sourced from data provided by the Sant’Orsola Hospital in Bologna.
