Sicilian dialect poetry and music gain cultural recognition

Sicilian cultural expression has gained recent recognition through both local events and international publication. In Licata, the 24th Rosa Balistreri Memorial was held at the Ex Badia cloister, featuring a competition of singing and poetry in the Sicilian language. The event included musical performances and poetry readings, alongside a career award for singer-songwriter Carlo Muratori.

On an international level, poet Silvana Blandino has had her dialect poetry published in the American literary magazine Arba Sicula. Curated by Professor Gaetano Cipolla, the publication included an English translation of the work, facilitating a dialogue between Sicilian vernacular and a global audience. These developments highlight the ongoing use of Sicilian dialect as a contemporary tool for artistic creation and cultural identity.
