Sicilian government pledges school funding and air conditioning

The Sicilian regional government has announced several commitments to improve the educational system during a meeting with school principals in Catania. Key initiatives for the 2026-2027 school year include the installation of air conditioning units in classrooms, which is being described as a symbolic priority to address an urgent need.

Vice President Luca Sammartino stated that the regional stability law will allocate increased resources for building maintenance and that a broader plan for school construction is being developed. Additionally, the government plans to provide psychological support services for students, increase operational spending for institutes, and focus on energy efficiency.

These measures are part of a series of meetings across Sicily, including upcoming stops in Agrigento and Messina, intended to gather feedback from school leaders. The proposals collected will be presented at the States General of Sicilian Schools in Palermo this October and submitted to the national Minister of Education.
