Sicilian mayors and officials push for integrated community health services

A conference organized by the Sicilian Association of Local Administrators (Asael) in Bagheria brought together mayors, health directors and technical staff to discuss the growing pressure on local health and social services. Speakers warned that community health houses risk becoming “empty boxes” without adequate staffing and called for a unified budget, stronger coordination between municipalities, health agencies and the regional government, and faster bureaucratic procedures.

In Acireale, Senator Domenico Scilipoti chaired the first political‑training seminar of Unione Cristiana, where health, life protection and the role of local authorities were highlighted. Participants stressed the strategic importance of community health houses for reducing hospital pressure, advocated for more resources for primary care, and proposed stricter regulations on abortion. The seminar also called for greater monetary sovereignty and the abolition of banking practices that harm families and businesses, linking these reforms to upcoming regional elections.
