Sicilian medical unions support Health Assessor Marcello Caruso

Medical unions in Sicily, including Fimmg Sicilia and Cimo-Fesmed Sicilia, have expressed solidarity with Regional Health Assessor Marcello Caruso amid political calls for his resignation.

Luigi Tramonte, regional secretary of Fimmg Sicilia, noted that Caruso has shown concrete attention to the needs of general practitioners, citing successful corrections to economic indemnity calculations and efforts to support doctors on minor islands. Tramonte emphasized the importance of maintaining dialogue with the regional government to address service reorganization and resource allocation.

Similarly, Giuseppe Bonsignore, president of Cimo-Fesmed Sicilia, described the opposition's demands for resignation as unmotivated. He called for public debate to remain respectful and fact-based, noting that Caruso has clarified he did not initiate official measures following a controversial meeting with lawyer Armao. The union stressed that administrative performance should be judged by transparency and the ability to address healthcare issues such as waiting lists and staff shortages.
