Sicilian Regional Assembly Budget Commission occupied by protesters

Deputies from the Controcorrente group have occupied the Budget Commission of the Sicilian Regional Assembly (Ars) in protest. The lawmakers, including Ismaele La Vardera, Josè Marano, Alessandro De Leo, and Carlo Gilistro, are demanding the right to vote and participate in commission proceedings, citing regional regulations. They argue that being excluded from discussions regarding a budget variation exceeding one billion euros is unacceptable.

Nino Germanà, regional secretary of the Lega in Sicily, has called for an institutional solution to the issue of parliamentary group representation within the commission. While acknowledging that the Lega also lacks representation in the Budget Commission, Germanà criticized the occupation as an escalation, urging the Ars Presidency to find a way to ensure balanced representation for all parliamentary forces while respecting institutional rules.
