Sicilian unions protest delays in disability and caregiver funding
Labor unions in Sicily are raising concerns regarding the management and distribution of funds intended for disability support and family caregivers.
In Siracusa, the Cisl Fnp union has criticized the lack of institutional dialogue concerning the planning and monitoring of public resources for people with disabilities and vulnerable families. The union leadership described the failure to convene discussion tables as a serious matter that lacks transparency, noting that while District 44 has begun interlocution, a general lack of involvement persists.
In the Trapani province, the Spi Cgil union is urging municipalities to expedite the release of 2022 caregiver funds. Although the Sicilian Region liquidated these resources in July, local administrations in Pantelleria, Marsala, Mazara del Vallo, Castelvetrano, and Alcamo have yet to publish the necessary notices for families to apply. Union representatives emphasized that these delays place an undue economic and human burden on families assisting those with severe disabilities.
