Sicily agricultural accident leaves one dead and one seriously injured

A fatal workplace accident occurred in the rural area between Alcamo and Grisì, a hamlet of Monreale in Sicily, involving agricultural machinery. A 60-year-old man from Alcamo died after becoming trapped in a harvester or grape harvester.

A second worker sustained multiple traumatic injuries in the incident. He was rescued by emergency services and transported via helicopter to the Civico Hospital in Palermo, where he remains in serious condition.

Local Carabinieri and technicians from the Spresal (the prevention and safety service of the Provincial Health Authority) are conducting investigations. Authorities aim to reconstruct the dynamics of the accident and verify whether safety regulations for agricultural machinery were followed and if the equipment was in compliant condition. Labor unions have expressed deep concern, citing the incident as a call to address systemic issues in the agricultural sector, including labor safety and illegal employment practices.
