Sicily's SAC Airport Operator Privatization Fuels Political Tension

The Italian government is moving to privatise SAC S.p.A., the public company that manages Catania and Comiso airports in eastern Sicily. Local politicians, councilors and trade unions have called for guarantees on staff jobs and territorial continuity, and have criticised the silence of Catania Mayor Trantino after his appearance before the regional Assembly's commission on the sale.

The “Patto per la Sicilia orientale” has lodged an access‑to‑documents request with the Chamber of Commerce and filed a petition with the European Parliament, demanding that the required rationalisation plan and technical‑economic justification required by law be made public before any share transfer can proceed.
