Sicily Allocates €3 million to Modernize Fishing Fleet
The Sicilian regional government has approved a €3 million funding programme to modernise the island's fishing fleet. The scheme, announced under the “111302‑Flotta” call, will award grants covering up to 75 % of eligible costs, with a maximum of €200,000 per recipient.
A total of 36 fishing enterprises will receive the assistance, which is aimed at improving vessel safety, introducing advanced hardware and software systems, and enhancing working conditions on board. Regional Agriculture Assessor Luca Sammartino said the investment seeks to strengthen sustainable fishing on economic, social and environmental fronts.
The programme is expected to raise the competitiveness of Sicilian fisheries, boost the quality of marine products and reduce operational risks for crews, supporting a transition toward a more modern and environmentally‑friendly sector.
