Sicily allocates €7.2 million to upgrade Etna Valley water supply for semiconductor campus

The regional government of Sicily approved a reallocation of €7.2 million from the Development and Cohesion Plan to modernise the water‑supply network serving the Etna Valley industrial zone. The funding, proposed by President Renato Schifani, will be used to upgrade the Pantano d’Arci well field in the Catania industrial area, a prerequisite for the "Campus Sic" silicon‑carbide semiconductor campus – the first integrated plant of its kind in Europe.

The project, linked to a €5 billion STMicroelectronics investment, is co‑financed by the region with €300 million from EU funds and aims to attract further industrial investment, create skilled jobs and boost Sicily’s competitiveness. Sidra, a regional public‑owned company, has been named the implementation partner, with the works expected to take about ten months after contract award.
