Sicily and 12 Italian regions to observe December 2026 school holiday bridge

The 2026/2027 school calendar for Sicily and several other Italian regions includes a holiday bridge on Monday, December 7, 2026. This suspension of classes precedes the Feast of the Immaculate Conception on Tuesday, December 8. For students in schools with a short week, this allows for a four-day break from Saturday, December 5, to Tuesday, December 8.

In addition to Sicily, the December 7 suspension is scheduled for Abruzzo, Calabria, Campania, Friuli Venezia Giulia, Liguria, Piemonte, Puglia, Umbria, Valle d’Aosta, Veneto, and the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano. In regions where the suspension is not mandated regionally, individual schools may decide whether to close.

Regarding the Sicilian calendar, a recent regional decree corrected the end-of-year date; the final day of school will be Wednesday, June 9, 2027. Other key dates for Sicily include Christmas holidays from December 23, 2026, to January 7, 2027, and Easter holidays from March 25 to March 30, 2027. While May 15 marks the Day of Sicilian Autonomy, schools will remain open to conduct activities related to regional identity.
