Sicily: Elisa Ingala resigns as regional assessor

Elisa Ingala has resigned from her position as the Sicilian regional assessor for Public Function and Local Autonomies. Ingala, a member of the Movimento per l’Autonomia (Mpa), stated that her decision was a ‘difficult choice’ driven by the inability to reconcile her professional commitments with the heavy workload and responsibilities required by the role.

Sicilian President Renato Schifani has accepted the resignation and appointed lawyer Francesca Garigliano as her successor. Garigliano, who currently serves on the board of directors for Sac, will take her oath before the Sicilian Regional Assembly at the first available session. Until the formal swearing-in, Schifani will hold the position in an interim capacity.

The resignation has drawn political criticism from regional deputy Mario Giambona of the Democratic Party, who characterized the departure as a sign of a regional government that is ‘crumbling’ and struggling to manage key administrative functions.
