Sicily Confirms Funding and Land Deal for New Gela Hospital

A meeting in Palermo brought together Sicily’s regional health assessor Marcello Caruso and ASP Caltanissetta director Salvatore Lucio Ficarra to review the situation at the Vittorio Emanuele hospital in Gela. The officials discussed current service shortcomings and outlined immediate actions, including recruiting doctors for the emergency department and finalising a cardiology staffing plan.

The regional government reaffirmed that funds for a new hospital in Gela are already allocated and that a protocol with the private firm Enimed is being finalised to secure the land for the new facility. Additional measures include renewing the intensive‑care agreement with Siracusa, establishing a detached e‑dynamics unit, and maintaining close coordination with Gela’s mayor Terenziano Di Stefano and other local authorities.
