Sicily crime wave: burglaries and suspicious activity spark alarm in Marsala

A series of thefts and burglaries has heightened security concerns in Sicily, specifically affecting Marsala and surrounding areas. In a recent overnight raid, thieves targeted the Vittoria pharmacy on via Libertà. The perpetrators used a method involving forcing the bottom of the metal shutter to create a small opening, allowing them to enter and use a metal bar to force the interior door. The thieves stole a cash register and various items before fleeing. This incident follows a similar burglary at the Iadevaia para-pharmacy just four days prior.

In Marsala, residents in the southern districts have expressed growing alarm due to frequent reports of suspicious movements and attempted intrusions. In the Ciancio district, citizens reported seeing a man and a woman loitering near residential villas. The climate of insecurity has led some community members to organize autonomous patrols to monitor the streets. While the Prefect of Trapani, Daniela Lupo, has urged citizens to report incidents to the authorities rather than taking independent action, local anxiety remains high following multiple reported thefts and encounters with strangers near private residences.
