Sicily expands cultural tourism with food‑tour project and free museum entry

The Diodoros project in the Valle dei Templi near Agrigento, launched in 2005 to protect the landscape, now promotes food‑tourism. Operated from Casa Diodoros, it collaborates with 173 travel agencies worldwide and offers visitors local specialties such as almond granita, ancient‑grain focaccia, vineyard tours, pistachio tasting, goat‑herding experiences and visits to orchards with 28 citrus varieties. The initiative reports that more than 450 hectares of historic trees have been saved, with the University of Palermo cataloguing over 400 almond cultivars.

On July 5, the Sicilian regional cultural program “Domenica al museo” provides free admission to archaeological sites in Catania and nearby towns, including the Teatro Antico, the Odeon, the Jesuit church of San Francesco Borgia, and the Roman baths of the Rotonda and dell’Indirizzo. The day‑long event aims to attract domestic and international visitors to the region’s heritage sites.
