Sicily funds 44 school projects on legality in Catania
The Sicilian regional administration approved financing for 44 school projects in the province of Catania under the "Liberi di scegliere" programme, making Catania the top province in the island for such initiatives. The projects, coordinated by the Scuola Superiore di Catania under President Ida Angela Nicotra and tutor Giuseppe Trovato, received a total of €656,006.22 to promote legal‑culture education, anti‑mafia awareness and the prevention of youth deviance.
Across Sicily, 108 projects were selected for funding, covering 164 applications and amounting to €1,614,872.47 out of a €1.5 million regional budget. Regional President Renato Schifani and Education Assessor Mimmo Turano highlighted the programme’s role in offering social protection, school retention and pathways to employment for students vulnerable to organised‑crime influence.
