Sicily funds seven new water tankers for Agrigento
The Sicilian Region has allocated 787,500 euros to purchase seven new water tankers for the province of Agrigento. This funding, drawn from resources dedicated to the island's water emergency, follows requests from the Agrigento Territorial Water Assembly (ATI) and support from the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security.
The new vehicles will be managed by AICA, the public water service provider for the Agrigento area. The initiative aims to strengthen the company's operational capacity and ensure an autonomous, entirely public management of substitute water supplies. By increasing the public fleet, authorities intend to reduce citizen reliance on private transporters and improve response times for areas not served by an efficient water network.
Regional Civil Protection Chief Salvo Cocina noted that these tankers will join approximately ten other vehicles already financed by the Region and currently in use by various municipalities. The measure is viewed as a strategic step to ensure legality, continuity, and efficiency in providing drinking water to vulnerable territories.
