Sicily health workers announce Palermo sit-in over staff internalization stalemate

Labor unions Filcams Cgil, Fisascat Cisl, and Uiltrasporti have announced a sit-in in Palermo on October 5 following a stalemate regarding the internalization of auxiliary staff for Sicily’s Provincial Health Authorities (ASP). The dispute affects approximately 1,800 families who currently work under outsourced contracts.

Union leaders are calling on the Regional Government to confirm its political will to initiate selective procedures for staff internalization, noting that the 2026 Budget Law provides specific funds for such processes. While unions argue that many outsourced workers possess professional skills required by healthcare roles, individual health authorities have expressed resistance, citing a lack of need for additional personnel, concerns over professional classification, and current financial resource constraints.
