Sicily hosts literary festivals in Catania and Sambuca di Sicilia

Sicily is hosting several literary events this season. The eighth edition of Etnabook, an international book and culture festival, will take place in Catania and 11 surrounding municipalities from September 23 to 27. The festival's theme is ‘Collega-menti’, focusing on building connections between people, ideas, and cultures. Events will be held at the Palazzo della Cultura, the Istituto per ciechi Ardizzone Gioeni, and Villa Ardizzone.

In Sambuca di Sicilia, the inaugural edition of the ‘Zabook – Il Borgo che legge’ literary review has concluded. The event culminated at the Teatro Saraceni with the presentation of the Zabook 2026 Prize to Alaa Faraj and Alessandra Sciurba for their book ‘Perché ero un ragazzo’. The award recognized their ability to use simple language to recount a profound human experience regarding injustice and the struggle for rights. The closing ceremony also included the unveiling of a mural dedicated to the authors by artist Florinda Cerrito.
