Sicily hosts prehistoric rock art course and guided tours
BCsicilia and Università Popolare are organizing a course on prehistoric rock art, featuring lectures and guided field visits in Sicily.
A lecture scheduled for October 2, 2026, in Palermo will be led by archaeologist Antonino Filippi. The session will cover European and Saharan rock art, focusing on the Upper Paleolithic period, zoomorphic subjects, and the impact of climate change on prehistoric iconography.
The program includes guided tours of prehistoric sites. On October 4, 2026, participants will visit the rock shelters of Borgo Scuro and Contrada Franco in Termini Imerese. These sites contain evidence of human and animal presence from the late Paleolithic, including linear engravings and stone tool fragments. A subsequent tour is planned for October 18 in the Trapani region.
