Sicily hosts summer theatrical festivals at historical sites

Sicily is hosting several theatrical festivals throughout August, utilizing historical and archaeological sites as venues for cultural performances.

In Calatafimi Segesta, the “Teatro e Memoria” festival will take place from August 16 to 23 at the Pianto Romano site. Organized by Associazione Segesta nel Sogno APS, the program includes four shows focused on memory, justice, and identity. Performances include “L’Amore Sterminato-Vitacoraggiosa di Felicia,” a production addressing gender violence, and a tribute to the poet Ignazio Buttitta.

Simultaneously, the “Teatri di Pietra Sicilia” festival is running from August 12 to 20 across the province of Agrigento. The itinerary includes performances at the Eraclea Minoa Archaeological Area, the Triokala Cathedral in Caltabellotta, and the ruins of the Chiesa Madre in Montevago. The festival features classical works such as Euripides’ “Medea,” a Shakespearean reading of “Richard III,” and Aristophanes’ “Clouds.”
