Sicily hosts theatrical and musical festivals at archaeological sites

Various cultural and theatrical festivals are taking place across historical and archaeological sites in Sicily.

The Tindari Archaeological Park is hosting the “Il Sorriso degli Dei” itinerant theatrical series, directed by Anna Ricciardi. The program includes five performances scheduled through September 12, utilizing various archaeological sites and historic squares to connect local heritage with performing arts.

In Taormina, the Taormina Arte International Festival is resuming programming at the renovated Teatro Odeon. Following recent lighting and structural improvements by the Taormina Arte Sicilia Foundation, upcoming events include a musical performance by the trio Nuhara on August 26 and the play “Capelli” on September 1.

Additionally, Sergio Vespertino is concluding his Sicilian tour with the production “Essere o non essere Shakespeare.” Organized by Agricantus, the performance will take place on August 25 among the ruins of the Chiesa Madre in Montevago, exploring the mystery of William Shakespeare’s identity.
