Sicily implements vertical career progressions for 832 employees

The Sicilian regional government has signed the first vertical career progressions for 832 eligible employees in Palermo. This move includes the promotion of 296 assistants to officials and 536 coadiutori to the assistant profile.

The career advancements follow the approval of the 2025 financial statement, which marks a significant shift in regional finances. The region has moved from a 7.3 billion euro deficit in 2018 to an administrative surplus of 7.36 billion euros. This financial recovery has also facilitated 138 new hires, including technical labor inspectors, archaeologists, and regional forestry corps agents, as well as specific roles for children of victims of femicide.

Regional President Renato Schifani stated that the improved financial standing allows for the reorganization of the regional administration. Since 2023, 1,300 hires have been completed, with an additional 3,000 expected by 2028.
