Sicily increases security and traffic measures for summer holidays

Authorities in Sicily are implementing enhanced security and traffic management plans to handle the expected influx of tourists during the Ferragosto holiday period.

In the province of Trapani, Prefect Daniela Lupo has coordinated with police forces, including the Carabinieri and Guardia di Finanza, to increase surveillance in high-traffic tourist and cultural areas. The measures aim to prevent crime, manage nighttime social activities, and ensure public safety. Specific focus is being placed on regulating glass bottle sales to maintain public order and preventing unauthorized fires or pyrotechnics in state-owned areas.

In Messina, the Operational Mobility Committee has prepared a plan to manage heavy traffic flows expected throughout August and September. To ensure smooth transit, police will increase roadside checks for traffic violations, and the CAS will ensure fire brigade availability on highways. Additionally, removable construction sites will be closed to prevent unnecessary lane restrictions, and ferry services at Tremestieri and other ports will increase frequency to accommodate travelers.
