Sicily industrial growth and energy transition debates

Sicilian regional President Renato Schifani met with representatives from Confimi Industria Sicilia to discuss economic growth and industrial reforms. Schifani highlighted regional initiatives such as the Super Zes, South working policies, and the development of the Comiso airport as a cargo hub to support the island's productive sectors.

Separately, the CGIL trade union in Syracuse has called on the energy company Eni to commit to a new industrial pact for the Sicilian petrochemical hub. The union expressed concern that Eni's international expansion, including energy resource developments in Venezuela, should not come at the expense of domestic investments. CGIL emphasized that the energy transition in areas like Priolo must prioritize job security and local industrial strengthening over divestment.
