Palermo: Nightly train suspensions for airport link due to infrastructure works
Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) has announced significant nightly train service suspensions in the Palermo railway hub to facilitate infrastructure and technological upgrades. From November 4, 2026, to February 28, 2027, rail service on the Palermo Centrale to Palermo Aeroporto line, as well as the section between Palermo Notarbartolo and Palermo Politeama, will be interrupted during the night.
The suspensions are scheduled daily from 21:30 to 05:00, with the exception of Sunday nights. These works are preparatory to the activation of a double track on the Palermo Notarbartolo to Palermo Palazzo Reale-Orleans section and the opening of the Lolli and Tribunale stations.
To mitigate travel disruptions, Trenitalia will provide replacement bus services. Travelers are advised that bus travel times may increase due to road traffic and seat availability may be more limited than standard train services. Specific rules apply to replacement buses, such as allowing only folding bicycles and prohibiting large animals, except for service dogs.
