Sicily infrastructure projects focus on meat industry and urban redevelopment

In Palazzolo Acreide, a project is underway to repurpose a municipal cold storage facility into a specialized meat aging hub. Funded by approximately 500,000 euros from the Cluster Sicilia, the initiative covers 800 square meters to restore refrigeration cells and processing areas. The project aims to enhance the local meat supply chain, including beef and Sicilian black pig, by providing advanced aging capabilities for carcasses.

In Acireale, the municipal government has approved a design direction document for the redevelopment of the former Acque Pozzillo plant. The project, valued at approximately 2.1 million euros, involves demolishing non-recoverable industrial buildings to create a landscaped public parking area. The redevelopment seeks to improve livability in the Pozzillo maritime district by addressing traffic and parking shortages while reclaiming a degraded industrial site.
