Sicily launches major highway upgrades and road maintenance projects

The president of the Consorzio per le Autostrade Siciliane, Filippo Nasca, ordered the start of a three‑year public‑works programme for four key highway projects in Sicily. The works include completing the A18 Siracusa‑Gela section between Gela and Scicli, adding a third lane to the A18 Messina‑Catania, building three roundabouts at the Patti junction on the A20 Messina‑Palermo, and constructing a new interchange at Gioiosa Marea on the A20.

In parallel, scheduled maintenance has begun on state road 624 "Palermo‑Sciacca". Night‑time works cover the stretch from kilometre 0 to 1.540 near Palermo and will last about a week, aiming to improve pavement and road markings while minimising traffic disruption. Subsequent phases will address additional sections of SS 624 and other state roads (113, 117, 120, 186, 286, 643) during daytime hours. Both initiatives seek to boost mobility, safety and comfort for road users in the region.
