Sicily launches project to revitalize Cammino di San Giacomo route
The Sicilian Regional Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Mediterranean Fisheries is launching a new project to enhance the Cammino di San Giacomo pilgrimage route. The initiative aims to transform the path from Caltagirone to Capizzi into an economic and cultural link for the region.
By connecting pilgrims with local farmers, artisans, and producers, the project seeks to ensure that the journey generates direct value for rural territories. Key components of the plan include improving route safety, installing new signage, creating equipped rest areas, and involving local agricultural businesses. As part of this phase, the “Pane del Pellegrino” (Pilgrim’s Bread) will be introduced to highlight the use of traditional Sicilian grains.
