Sicily launches street art fund for urban regeneration
The Sicilian Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity has launched a call for proposals to support street art, muralism, and urban creativity within Sicilian municipalities. The initiative aims to use street art as a tool for urban and extra-urban regeneration, specifically targeting degraded and peripheral areas to enhance their civic and cultural impact.
The program has a total budget of 200,000 euros, drawn from the Urban Creativity Fund. Individual projects can receive a maximum contribution of 20,000 euros to cover costs such as artistic performances, materials, scaffolding, platforms, and inauguration events.
Francesco Paolo Scarpinato, the Assessor for Cultural Heritage, stated that the goal is to make peripheries and city visiting routes more attractive, transforming urban spaces into significant tourist and cultural landmarks. Applications must be submitted within one week starting from the Monday following the publication of the notice in the Official Gazette of the Sicilian Region.
