Sicily launches youth-led urban regeneration initiatives

Several community-driven initiatives are launching in Sicily to promote urban regeneration and youth engagement.

In Mazara del Vallo, the CIVIC center is hosting ‘Dialoghi Urbani’, a series of six free meetings designed for residents under 35. The project, funded by the Regional Department for Family, Social Policies, and Labor and designed by Mezza APS, aims to transform civic ideas into concrete local projects and revitalize the Youth Council. The program includes sessions on participatory democracy, digital activism, and a civic hackathon.

In Syracuse, the ‘AIM - Abitare i margini’ project is set to revitalize the Mazzarona district. Co-financed by the EU through Erasmus+, the initiative will host five free workshops focusing on theater, writing, photography, and self-construction at the former Chindemi school. Targeting youth aged 18 to 29 from peripheral areas, the project seeks to build artistic skills and civic responsibility to reintegrate forgotten neighborhoods into the city's social fabric.
